Australian Rules football (Aussie Rules) is the number one spectator sport in Australia, with some games bringing in in excess of 100,000 fans - even Bayern Munich dreams of numbers like that. The AFLG started as the fourth European league. The first Australian Football club in Germany, the Frankfurt Redbacks, has been around since 1995 and has played several games against the Munich Roos, as well as international sides from the British, Swedish and Danish competitions. The German media has reacted positively to the game, with the Frankfurter Rundschau having covered all of the home games of the Redbacks for some time now. Several other papers, including Bild, die Neue Presse (The New Press) and the Münchner Tageszeitung (The Munich Daily News) also report Aussie Rules in Germany. Meanwhile radio and TV have also picked up on Australian Rules. HR XXL compiles regular radio reports about footy (one of the nicknames Australians give their sport) and TV stations DSF (Deutsches Sport Fernsehen - German Sports Television) and Sat1 have also reported on the sport. And here we are. We welcome financial support or sponsoring of any sort for our league, just as any other league in it's infancy would. Help us to increase the popularity of this fast and exciting sport in Germany. The road to the the attainment of this goal will be a long one, but we are convinced that, with your help, we can make Australian Rules Football a part of the German sporting environment.
